Disappointments:
As God has been talking to me about joy over the last year, one of the things he showed me is how my past disappointments were causing me resentment. I am used to being a person who always looks ahead, sometimes to my own detriment, so it was weird to me that I had let negative experiences from my past gain a foothold in my life. Laying this stuff down is not easy, truly processing it while laying it down is even harder. Yet, God’s Spirit loves to heal us from these kinds of wounds bringing us new seasons of peace and joy and fruitfulness for His kingdom.
Questions:
1. What are some disappointments in your life that affect you negatively?
2. What are some steps you could take to process these?
Prayer:
Lord, we long for you to speak to us. Help us to quiet ourselves before you. Help us to be ready to receive your message. Give us the patience to wait upon you without agenda. To wait knowing that just sitting here with you is enough.
Exercise:
Find a quiet spot where you can relax. Spend a few minutes emptying your mind and taking your focus off yourself and placing it on God. Then when you are ready to listen, simply ask, “Lord, what is on your heart today?”
